In favor of the day of lazing around…
A lot of our society is focused on productivity, on getting stuff down. Busy is a virtue. Getting everything you can done in a day, only to wake up the next day to do the same thing. Over and over again. Without stop.
Busy is exhausting. To both the mind and the body, especially to an introvert like myself.
So every once in awhile, I choose to take a day where I do nothing very productive. Not to say that I don’t do anything, but more a small projects that don’t require much energy and that I can pick up or put down without it mattering to the day. Maybe I get it done. Maybe I just get a bit of it done. It doesn’t matter.
I may do mental or emotional work during that day – processing or re-processing something that’s come up or has been brewing in my brain – but this is the kind of work that society doesn’t value as work or productive.
